We’re live on Ronin! 🐬💫⛩️

Clique is proud to partner up with

Ronin Network
to build out the ecosystem's identity layer. Users will be able to claim a soul-bound token (SBT) that stores meaningful data about their gaming history. The process? Connect your wallet, your Steam account & mint away!

How does it work?

Clique’s underlying technology - Identity Oracles - enables users to attest meaningful identity/behavioral data from off-chain sources on-chain in a fully privacy-preserving and trust-minimized way, ensuring issuer-level data confidentiality, data integrity, and user identity anonymity at the same time.

User data is preserved by making use of various cryptographic primitives including TEEs (trusted execution environments), ZKPs (zero-knowledge proofs), and MPC (multi-party computation). ZKPs are intuitively used to preserve data privacy, where users can selectively disclose arbitrary information from the results of an API call or data they are viewing in their browser to a third-party. However, purely using ZKPs would mean that you have to trust either Clique or Ronin to generate the proofs correctly, while in the meantime user data (the witness, in the zk context) doesn’t have any privacy against the trusted prover. On the other hand, if we directly generate proofs on user frontend, there is no guarantee that the user doesn’t change the data. Thus, we adopt TEEs and MPC to ensure that proofs can be directly generated on client-side while users can’t tamper with data integrity. User data is then pushed on-chain alongside the proofs so that everyone can easily verify them. During this entire process, only users have access to their data, while the verifiers can be 100% sure that the data has both authenticity and provenance.

Through a combination of a user’s first-party Steam data, third-party & public datasets, we enable users to push the following gaming data on-chain:

  • Gaming activity (Total hours spent in-game on Steam)

  • Preferred genres

  • Preferred game themes

  • Preferred play style

Why this is a game-changer

We fully believe that web3 offers the users’ a platform for data ownership. However, the real value comes from the fact the identity is interoperable with different protocols. For those who get confused (there’s no shame in admitting it, the writer of this article is very vocal about his struggles), this means the product is recognized & can work seamlessly with other products.

Blockchain technology is often referred to as the Truth Machine, as it allows users to transact and interact with dApps while remaining anonymous. That said, this anonymity comes with a cost:

  • Sybil Attacks

  • Low Retention Rates

  • Inability to connect with the target audience

  • Lack of Recognisability

Web3 games suffer from this in particular - there is nothing worse than spending capital building a community, having users mint your collection, only for their attention to divert to the next shiny thing after that. Our technology enables more complete touchpoints with users to facilitate curation strategies and improve retention.

Okay, but what has that got to do with Ronin?

Ronin’s approach as a blockchain is fundamentally different with a focus on carefully curating games. From that angle, the ecosystem aims to provide each game the maximum amount of support which naturally includes finding their target audience.

Clique’s Identity enables that. Aside from allowing the Ecosystem to understand their user’s web2 gaming behaviors & conduct user segmentation, this newfound recognition of users will allow games building on Ronin to target the right audience & build their communities from the bottom up. It also unlocks a new funnel for User Acquisition - for example, it is conceivable that future MOBA games coming on Ronin might want to offer benefits to users who have over 3,000 hours on DOTA 2 👀

Great - but where’s the value for me?

In a nutshell?

  • Increased Discoverability: Less doom-scrolling on Twitter, games building on Ronin will have the ability to reach out to you directly.

  • Recognisability: You guys are the bedrock of any game. The ability to connect & exchange with other users based on their gaming activity will undeniably shape a stronger community. We’ve partnered up with popular identity verifier Collabland which will enable owners of a Clique SBT to automatically get roles within the communities discord servers according to their gaming activity (e.g. “if you have over 200 hours of RPG gameplay, you automatically get the RPG role).

  • Building your Reputation On-chain: Steam is only the beginning. Clique will work to allow users to port their data from other sources (PSN, Epic, etc). As your Gaming Identity becomes more robust, so does its value (value is ambiguous, we’ll leave it at that 😉).

  • Reputation Weighted-Governance: Your past experiences matter! More on this to come later down the line but we believe identity enables reputation-weighted governance, which would encourage more cohesive ways to involve the community in a project’s growth.

So what now?

  • Head to https://clique.social/attestor/ronin-gaming-id

  • Connect your Ronin Wallet https://wallet.roninchain.com/

  • Connect your Steam

    • ⚠️make sure your profile is set to public

    • Go to: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199507586027/edit/settings?snr=

  • Claim your Identity

    • This should cost no more than 0.50 $RON

  • Check-in once in a while to update your gaming data.

This is the first out of many activations & we’re excited to grow alongside the Ronin Network.
